The following works express these dialectical realities as-experienced in my own life. My wife contracted Covid in March 2020, and while she recovered, I had to figure out how to teach all my students from a safe distance. While they languished in a virtual classroom, so did their teacher. All of this is exacerbated by the knowledge that we will continue this way going forward. This is a self-sound portrait made with forks tuned to the elements of my own voice. Created during this difficult time of separation and isolation, I sought to represent myself by the disambiguation of that which is uniquely me: my voice. By analyzing my own voice & and then taking it apart into its constituent formants, This work can operate on 6 independent channels, through the forks, randomized so it always sounds differently. I am able to reorganize the fundamentals of communication, or lack thereof, in a time where identity is relative.
