This clay sculpture captures some of the beautification strategies used to show marital status, and social and economic background, strength, tribal status and beauty. The fiber head wrap originated in Africa and is called many names. "Duka" in Ghana, 'Gele" in Nigeria and "Doek" in S. Africa.
